Week 37 - Blood Orange, Afourer Mandarin, Daisy Mandarin and Tangelo

Citrus from the winter season is still happily with us, and this week we have all the varieties back with blood orange, tangelo and Afourer mandarins.

Asparagus from Gippsland has arrived, and from up north sweet corn, snow peas and eggplant are our pick.

Eat well,
Graham

PS. Choose from one of our box selection, and let us know your “no list”; or make one of your own by choosing the vegetables and fruit you prefer.

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

Much of the CAULIFLOWER is now coming from up north as the local season slows - still a little from Bairnsdale for the Vic boxes.

BROCCOLI from Mornington is also slowing this time of year, as we start the Spring cross over period. Plenty of planting going on, but not a lot coming out of the ground.

ASPARAGUS from Gippsland is on its way, however. A small amount this week from Koo Wee Rup, and then we expect the biodynamic crop to start in a couple weeks.

Greens for the veg boxes will be PAK CHOY from Colac and SPINACH from Pearcedale. For KALE lovers, nice bunches from Labertouche at the moment.

EGGPLANT probably is better value right now than at the peak of the local season, so we’re going again with including these lovely looking fruits in this week's boxes.

Some root vegetables are still going strong, with a new pick of BEETROOT with leaves from Swan Hill and a lovely abundance of PARSNIP from Pakenham. POTATO from Daylesford is having an extended season.

A small amount of KOHLRABI from Swan Hill will be available for a little while, and the CELERIAC from Inverleighis just about done.

PEAS that we expected last week didn't arrive unfortunately - and they were a short one off so not expecting to see more soon. SNOW PEAS from up north however are aplenty and excellent value.

For fruit, new season AFOURER MANDARIN are replacing the Imperials as the season slows.

BLOOD ORANGE are back from the Mildura area for orange lovers, and juicy tart TANGELO will be in the boxes along with CARA CARA oranges and DAISY MANDARINS.
