Week 12 - Fresh Figs, Vanilla Persimmon, Crimson Seedless Grapes, Sweet Corn, Zucchini, Fennel and Spinach

We see summer produce winding up, whilst the seasons are shifting. New season persimmon, quince and figs are all signs.

Nice value on sweet corn, sweet potato, capsicum, onions and beetroot this week.

Eat well,
Graham

PS. Choose from one of our box selection, and let us know your “no list”; or make one of your own by choosing the vegetables and fruit you prefer.

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

From the Summer produce, RED CAPSICUM is holding up best - plenty coming from Mildura and Gippsland.

TOMATO is slowing down with a little left from local growers, and CUCUMBER only from up north now.

Local growers harvesting SEBAGO POTATO and CARROTS from Campbelltown and Daylesford in another sign of changing seasons.

BROCCOLI and CAULIFLOWER will both be short for a few more weeks - once the new harvest from biodynamic growers starts, we should see them return to the boxes more often.

For now, we have ONIONS from Geelong biodynamic growers, PUMPKIN from Mildura and now SWEET POTATO making up most of the boxes.

Greens will be SPINACH again from Pearcedale and LETTUCE from Yarra Valley and down the Peninsula.

Nice sized FENNEL from Koo Wee Rup - you’ll find them in the small boxes this week - along with more SWEET CORN which is having a decent season (although it usually ends abruptly).

Local ZUCCHINI well and truly done, but a nice late flush coming from down near Pakenham now.

For fruit, Red Hill APPLES are our preferred with four varieties to choose from.

BANANA escaped all the weather and cyclone problems from a few weeks back.

Crimson Seedless GRAPES is our preferred variety - coming from biodynamic growers around Robinvale.

And for new season Autumn fruit, last week we had Pineapple QUINCE - and this week we have fresh FIGS and Vanilla PERSIMMON (the non-astringent variety that you eat either firm or soft ripened).

News on AVOCADO is still a little mixed - hoping to see some in the next two weeks.
