Week 20 - Parsnip, Beetroot, Celery, Baby Cos Lettuce, Broccoli, Cauliflower and Daisy Mandarins

Week 20 - Parsnip, Beetroot, Celery, Baby Cos Lettuce, Broccoli, Cauliflower and Daisy Mandarins

Celery returns to the boxes this week, whilst the root veg continues in abundance with biodynamic parsnip, swede and carrots.

Summer veg definitely on the way out with cucumber and capsicum slowing, tomato finishing and beans and snow peas done too.

Time for brassicas, citrus and those root veg - soups, casseroles, and shepherds pies.

Eat well,
Graham

PS. Choose from one of our box selection, and let us know your “no list”; or make one of your own by choosing the vegetables and fruit you prefer.

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

You know the deal by now - root veg for the colder days - and this week's boxes are full of PARSNIP from Geelong, along with BEETROOT from Swan Hill and SWEDE from Colac.

All from excellent Vic growers we’ve worked with for (20) years.

Greens for the week will be the deliciously tender BABY COS LETTUCE from Mornington, and from up north halves of CELERY are back for the first time this year.

Vic boxes will have PAK CHOY instead of Celery, but we should see some from Gippsland celery coming through in the next couple of weeks.

Plenty of CAULIFLOWER and BROCCOLI (and all brassicas) so expect plenty in the boxes for coming weeks.

ONIONS are from up north, so Vic boxes will have Inverleigh SPRING ONION and Colac LEEKS.

As warmer days end the CAPSICUM will be green from here on -with a small amount of PIMENTO caps from Gippsland and RED CAPSICUM from Renmark.

TOMATO looks to be finished and CUCUMBER will soon follow.

If you see organic tomatoes in the stores, ask where they are from because there are some suspicious “cheap organic produce” coming through the market at the moment, that are labelled as certified organic but are definitely not organic - the certification they are marked with is one that does not exist.

New season DAISY MANDARIN arrives this week from Mildura - a little tart and with a tighter skin than your regular imperial mandarin.

STRAWBERRIES still keep going - every time Adam lifts up the tunnel covers he sees more to harvest - but they are starting to get smaller so that must be a sign they are finishing soon.

AVOCADO looks to be well and truly back too - nice to have them again - 2 for $5.
