Week 22 - Celeriac, Red Sweet Potato, Turnip, Torp Pumpkin, Cauliflower, Spinach and Baby Cos Lettuce

This week's boxes are full of great value brassicas (cabbage, broccoli, cauli) and seasonal root veg (turnip, celeriac, beetroot). Leafy greens of lettuce and spinach. And fruit of citrus, pears and apples.

Keep an eye for some special treats in red sweet potato and Ronald's harvest of “Torp” pumpkins.

Eat well,
Graham

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

Biodynamic CELERIAC is having another go in the boxes this week - delicious winter root veg from market gardens in Inverleigh near Geelong - roast, add to potato mash or thinly sliced, fried and salted for a tasty snack.

Another not too high up on the favourites list is TURNIP :) - this week coming fresh with leaves from Ronald's paddock in Campbelltown.

Ronald will also be bringing in his football shaped PUMPKINS - he doesn't know the variety so has coined the name “The Torp” to keep the football theme and a nod to his beloved Saints.

Small RED SWEET POTATO have been a huge favourite - they have a short season, and are not that common so we’ll be getting them in the boxes before they disappear again.

SPINACH has been short and unpredictable the last few weeks - hoping we have them back this week after this rain.

LETTUCE is pretty happy - plenty Baby Cos from Mornington. And new season RADISH is back in the Victorian boxes.

Nice dense biodynamic from up north CABBAGE as well as some from Colac for the boxes’ brassicas.

BROCCOLI and CAULIFLOWER also having a nice flush in this winter weather - nice and fresh and great value from biodynamic growers, as well as some closer to home near Pakenham.

RED ONIONS from biodynamic growers near Geelong is our preferred onion - LEEK from Colac and Spring Onion from Labertouche are also up there.

For fruit, new season citrus is all the talk - delicious sweet / tart TANGELO from Swan Hill and sweet MANDARIN from Mildura.

NAVEL ORANGES looks to be a regular now after a slow start to the season.

And AVOCADO also well and truly back in season - coming in green, but ripening up after about a week and eating really well - have reduced in price by about half in the last couple of months - now 2 for $4.
