Week 25 - Eggplant, Zucchini, Spinach, Baby Cos, Cara Cara Oranges and Sundowner Apples

Week 25 - Eggplant, Zucchini, Spinach, Baby Cos, Cara Cara Oranges and Sundowner Apples

Very few changes week to week in the boxes at the moment, as the variety of produce is limited more than usual by the colder weather. Some milder days may change that up for the coming weeks.

Still, we’re managing to have some new season produce with sundowner apples and cara cara oranges arriving.

Lettuce from the Peninsula is back, plenty of seasonal root veg and some late season eggplant and zucchini.

Eat well,
Graham

PS. Choose from one of our box selection, and let us know your “no list”; or make one of your own by choosing the vegetables and fruit you prefer.

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

We have the last of the EGGPLANT, which we’ll include in the Mixed Choice boxes, small amounts of mixed colour CAPSICUM from Mildura, and some late season ZUCCHINI from up north.

Other than that, its mostly root veg and brassicas - with CAULIFLOWER and bunches of BROCCOLINI from Bairnsdale the mainstays.

BROCCOLI heads will be limited again this week, with the local crop not enjoying these colder mornings and days.

LETTUCE is back after a couple of weeks off, with BABY COS from Mornington and waiting to hear if ICEBERG will be here too.

Other greens for the boxes will be bunches of SPINACH from Pearcedale - we’re still waiting for Baby Spinach to return in decent amounts to be able to include.

Plenty of FENNEL for those that enjoy these tasty bulbs in the oven or in the salad.

Onions are also aplenty too, with local SPRING ONION  and biodynamic RED ONIONS from Geelong our picks. New pick of LEEK from Colac is a nice size again.

TURNIP seems to be near finished - still waiting for some growth in Ronalds harvest, which seems to have stalled in the cold ground - and PARSNIP and CELERIAC the two decent crops from biodynamic gardens in Inverleigh.

For fruit, the new season citrus has been excellent - this week's pick for the boxes will be CARA CARA oranges, with sweet , slightly tart and red flesh.

New season SUNDOWER APPLES from Red Hill start this week - usually a softer crunch than other varieties, and to be eaten soon after picking. We’ll have these lovelies for about a month.
