Week 28 - Broccolini, Red Cabbage, Celery, Leek, Parsnip, Turnip and Tangelo

Local carrots and potatoes are coming to an end from this week, with Adams final pick this week before he closes up the sheds for a few weeks break. He’ll be back when the weather warms in time for strawberry season. Once finished, we’ll be looking south for our carrots and north for our spuds.

Eat well,
Graham

PS. Choose from one of our box selection, and let us know your “no list”; or make one of your own by choosing the vegetables and fruit you prefer.

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

BROCCOLINI from Bairnsdale is an excellent value given the price of broccoli at the moment. Lovely tender bunches in the boxes - and in both of this week's recipes.

For greens we have halves of CELERY from up north - smaller boxes will have BABY SPINACH from Pearcedale and BABY COS from Baxter - larger Vic boxes will have SILVERBEET from Colac.

Root vegetables continue to be a winter staple, and in peak season - with SWEET POTATO from up north featuring in the Mixed Choice boxes - and JAP PUMPKIN from Mildura for the Vic boxes.

Large CARROTS from Daylesford will be the last of the local season, with Tassie growers steeping in after that. Local POTATO will be Sebago for a couple weeks, and then its Queensland crop for the boxes (none for the Vic boxes until January).

SEBAGO CHATS great value, pretty clean - so you can boil / roast whole - $4.90kg.

Biodynamic PARSNIP from Inverleigh and TURNIP from Colac in the Victorian boxes.

As a substitute for onions in the boxes, right now we are including LEEK from Colac, for a subtle addition to soups and roasts. If you prefer onions, our preference is the biodynamic RED ONIONS from near Geelong.

Plenty of seasonal GINGER around right now - good value for this  time of year - find it in the Juice Boxes.

For fruit, juicy and tart TANGELO are on special from Swan Hill growers. Mildura MANDARINS in 1kg Nets for $8.90. And our pick of the apples are the seasonal SUNDOWNER.
