Week 34 - Beans, Broad Beans, Fennel, Wombok, Eggplant, Capsicum and Afourer Mandarins

Week 34 - Beans, Broad Beans, Fennel, Wombok, Eggplant, Capsicum and Afourer Mandarins

The first week of Spring is bringing us broad beans and round beans in the same week - along with seasonal brassicas - and after a false start last week, we should see wombok too.

This time of year in Victoria we have the benefit of the warmer weather up north - and this week  we are bringing in beans, cucumber, capsicum , eggplant for the Mixed Choice boxes.

For fruit this week we are loving strawberries, bacon avocado and afourer mandarins.

Eat well,
Graham

PS. Choose from one of our box selection, and let us know your “no list”; or make one of your own by choosing the vegetables and fruit you prefer.

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

The difference between the local season and the one going on up north is visible when in the same week we have the first of the BROAD BEANS arriving for the Vic boxes, and some new season round BEANS for the Mixed Choice boxes.

Wet weather up north has affected growers considerably but we will still see CAPSICUM and EGGPLANT arrive this week.

And CUCUMBER is pretty good value for this early in the season. ZUCCHINI should be plenty too.

WOMBOK didn't arrive last week as forecast (transport!) but we’re reasonably confident for this week - for those that tried ordering last week.

Vic boxes will have small halves of Gippsland RED CABBAGE and BROCCOLI from the Peninsula.

Plenty of CAULIFLOWER too - its been a staple for this time of year - biodynamic produce just $4.90 half.

New season FENNEL returns from Koo Wee Rup - along with small bulbs in the Mixed Choice boxes from Colac.

For the boxes, we have AFOURER MANDARIN from Swan Hill - tight skin, a little tartness with the usual mandarin sweetness.

Red Hill orchards have late season BEURRE BOSC PEARS, whilst Mildura still serving us delicious sweet NAVEL and CARA CARA ORANGES.

Also from Mildura we have large BACON AVOCADO 2 for $5 - similar to Feurte Avocado in flavour, with thin green skin that ripens to touch.

Last weeks Queensland STRAWBERRIES were hit - this week, they are coming in larger amounts and now just $7.80 ea.
