Week 36 - Broccolini, Red Cabbage, Pak Choy, Pumpkin, Beans, Strawberries and Tangelo

Week 36 - Broccolini, Red Cabbage, Pak Choy, Pumpkin, Beans, Strawberries and Tangelo

We’re seeing the first picks of asparagus from down Gippsland way, but still a little early for our organic growers - not long now though :)

In the meantime, more brassicas, leafy greens, citrus, apples and pears from your Vic growers.

And from northern growers, eggplant, tomato, zucchini and pumpkin.

Eat well,
Graham

PS. Choose from one of our box selection, and let us know your “no list”; or make one of your own by choosing the vegetables and fruit you prefer.

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

We didn’t get a pick of BROAD BEANS last week, and not sure if we’ll get one this week either - some more growers will start soon, but it's looking like a short season for Broadie-lovers.

For brassica lovers, on the other hand, plenty for you - with great value for Barinsdale BROCCOLINI ($4.90), lovely biodynamic CAULIFLOWER from up north, and small quarters of biodynamic RED CABBAGE all in the Mixed Choice boxes.

Late season PUMPKIN from grower stores will be either JAP (Mixed Choice) or BUTTERNUT (Vic boxes).

Greens will be a mix of PAK CHOY from Colac, BABY COS from Baxter and 100g bags of SALAD MIX from Pearcedale. Nice large bunches of KALE will be in the larger Vic boxes.

For spuds, we have SEBAGO CHATS for the boxes - along with Desiree, Dutch Cream and regular Sebago for everyone's orders.

SPRING ONION will be a little short, plenty of LEEK from Colac and new season brown ONIONS from biodynamic growers up north make up your onion choices.

ZUCCHINI and TOMATO from our northern neighbours will keep the boxes a little less same-same for this time of year whilst we wait for the local summer harvest to start.

New season GARLIC should start very soon - white or purple to start with.

CARA CARA navel oranges nearing the end of their season, plenty of time for regular navels.

This week's apple will be PINK LADY from the Edwards family in Red Hill, and our choice for citrus will be TANGELO from Mildura and AFOURER MANDARIN from Swan Hill.

Nice STRAWBERRIES from up north continue at $6.80 each.
