Week 42 - Snowpeas, Asparagus, Red Cabbage, Spinach bunches, Iceberg Lettuce and Avana Mandarins

Peas, shelling and snow, are starting to arrive for Spring now we are getting some warmer overnights. This week marks the official (?!) end of the frosts 🙂So that means friendlier nights for the summer produce we’re all waiting for.

For now, we’ll enjoy the seasonal peas and asparagus, and take advantage of the brassicas and leafy greens that are loving it at the moment.

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

Spring is bringing SNOW PEAS from Bairnsdale this week for the first of the season - we may also have some SHELLING PEAS next week.

ASPARAGUS from south of Melbourne continues, with the warmer weather later this week kicking them on. Harvests also coming from further south in Gippsland.

Greens for the week will be bunches of SPINACH and LETTUCE from down the Peninsula - both Cos and Iceberg in the boxes.

PAK CHOY from Colac will also be in the Vic boxes, and FENNEL from Koo Wee Rup. SPRING ONION is in between picks so may be in small amounts.

For the boxes, RED CABBAGE from Pakenham, fresh BROCCOLINI from Bairnsdale and CAULIFLOWER from Baxter and up north; will be your brassicas for the week - which (along with leafy greens) continue to be the mainstay for Spring season.

Up north is bringing us JAP PUMPKIN and PARSNIP for the boxes - whilst Swan Hill has BEETROOT both loose and with leaves.

Spring can be slow moving when it comes to seasonal produce, but once early Summer arrives, things should start changing pretty quickly.

AVANA MANDARIN from Mildura are excellent eating, and new season VALENCIA ORANGES start this week - first in 3kg nets, and then replacing loose Navels in the next week or two.

We also have some Kensington MANGO early in the season, and decent price for this time of year ($5.50).
