Week 1 - Sweet Corn, Tomato, Pak Choy, Spring Onion, Snowpeas and biodynamic Apricots

Welcome to the first box of the new year 🙂

It’s planning to be a hot week first up - we’ll have ice packs in the boxes, so if you could please send these back with your empty boxes for reuse.

Hope you’ve managed a restful holiday period. And are looking forward to a summer of seasonal veg. This week the first of the biodynamic tomatoes are with us.

Eat well,

Graham

PS. Choose from one of our box selection, and let us know your “no list”; or make one of your own by choosing the vegetables and fruit you prefer.

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

From Bairnsdale BROCCOLINI bunches are returning, whilst Broccoli slows - still some from northern Vic at Nyah - CAULIFLOWER is a *maybe* for the week - much too hot for local growers at the moment.

However, we will see other brassicas (CABBAGE and KALE) coming from Pakenham and Colac areas. LEEK from Colac also returns with a new pick, and SPRING ONION for the Vic boxes will be from the Peninsula area.

Greens for the week's boxes will be PAK CHOY and a variety of mixed LETTUCES.

Usually by the first week of the year, we have CAPSICUM and EGGPLANT from Labertouche in Gippsland. However, we’re still waiting this year, so will have some CAPSICUM from up north instead.

Biodynamic TOMATO from Inverleigh near Geelong will be here for the first week's boxes though, and a small pick of LEBANESE CUCUMBER from local growers.

Summers SWEET CORN continues, and tasting excellent. And ZUCCHINI harvest continues to speed up, with multiple growers from Vic coming in - Inverleigh, Labertouche and Campbelltown.

SNOWPEAS from Nyah, and BEANS from up north should continue well into summer.

And the new season POTATO from Thorpdale should be here at the end of January.

In the meantime, if you fancy root veg and pumpkin in the boxes try the Mixed Choice; if your preference is more leafy greens and salad veg, then the Victorian boxes will be your thing.

For fruit, biodynamic APRICOT from Majestic Park are eating well. PLUMS will be here from next week.

VALENCIA ORANGES from Mildura will continue through summer.

New season summer variety APPLES should start in the next week or two - usually Akane and Abas varieties are first up.

Wombat Organic STRAWBERRIES from Bullarto will be excellent and BLACKBERRIES from the Dromana area were eating well during the break.
