Week 33 - Wombok, Sweet Corn, Cucumber, Tomato, Leek, Broccolini and Tangelo

Lovers of leafy greens look towards the Victorian boxes this week - with fennel, spring onion, bok choy, spinach, bay cos lettuce, beetroot leaves and broccolini.

If you prefer an early taste of summer, the Mixed Choice boxes will have sweet corn, capsicum, sweet potato, tomato, cucumber as well as broccolini, fennel, leek and lettuce from closer to home.

Eat well,
Graham

PS. Choose from one of our box selection, and let us know your “no list”; or make one of your own by choosing the vegetables and fruit you prefer.

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

FENNEL from Koo Wee Rup is returning this week after a couple months absence, taking over from the Colac harvest - back in many of the boxes.

At the same time we’ll give you a break from CAULIFLOWER in the boxes this week, and giving you plenty of BROCCOLINI from Bairnsdale and Peninsula BROCCOLI.

New season WOMBOK for cabbage lovers starts now.

Seasonal produce from up north is bringing in some early CUCUMBER, TOMATO and SWEET CORN - all in this week's Mixed Choice boxes, all reasonably priced for this time of year.

Multi colour CAPSICUM is our pick of the seasonal produce up north, for quality and value.

On the other side POTATO from Queensland suffered earlier in the year from excessive rains with many growers losing most of their crop through rot. We had early notice during the local harvest, and local growers held back from sending out all their harvest knowing a shortage was coming.

New season local POTATO wont be here until late January, so expect high prices for spuds until then (unfortunately).

CARROTS were also affected, but less so - and we now have Mildura growers sending down small sized carrots for the Vic boxes.

SWEET POTATO on the other hand missed out on the damage and is having a bumper season.

ONIONS from up north are slowing slightly, so we are including Colac LEEK in the boxes this week; and SPRING ONION from Pearcedale in the larger Vic boxes.

Greens for the boxes will be bunches of SPINACH and BOK CHOY, along with delicious BABY COS from Baxter.

Fruit continues to send in excellent citrus - our pick for the boxes are TANGELO from Swan Hill and MANDARINS from Mildura.

APPLES from Edwards family orchards in Red Hill will be Pink Lady, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Fuji and (maybe) a small amount of Lady Williams in the boxes.

AVOCADO now just 2 for $3; and STRAWBERRIES from up north return this week.
