What's in Season

This week new season treats of persimmon, red anjou pears, spring onion and late season beans. We’ll give them all a run in this week's veg boxes. Along with cool season favourites of parsnip, cabbage, fennel and sweet potato.

A nice mix of root veg, brassicas and winter greens in this week's boxes - parsnip, swede, dutch cream spuds, broccoli, cauli, fennel and spinach all feature.

BROCCOLI from Black Gold in Koo Wee Rup has been superb, and now it is even better value as their cool weather season gets going. Expect plenty in the boxes. Not so much CAULIFLOWER coming, with a small pick from Gippsland and a dribble from further north.

Summer produce of tomato, cucumber and eggplant continues to be replaced with the cooler seasons produce.

We’re not resisting the root veg “invasion” - we’re going with it. Parsnip and turnip in this week's boxes. With summers capsicum, eggplant and zucchini putting their last gasps. Autumn giant plums, Musque de provence pumpkin and Daikon radish some of the new season organic produce this week.

Moving into more root veg with parsnip and swede arriving (already!). Still bringing field grown tomato and wonky zucchini for the boxes, along with summer greens of cos lettuce and celery.

And just like that, it was Autumn ………

Growers from Gippsland are holding the fort with sweet corn, broccolini, capscum and some eggplant. Whilst we are seeing a return of biodynamic cucumber and zucchini after a warm week last week.

Apples and pears are taking hold of the season, with plums and other stone fruit having farewelled. We’ll expect to see plenty of grapes from the northern part of the state, as well as rockmelon and watermelon, until the weeks start to cool.
